Since April 2023, poker can be played in a new ambience at Potsdamer Platz.
During ongoing operations, 8,500 square meters across six floors were modernised. After just 12 months, the renovation and expansion work in the main building of Spielbank Berlin was completed.
As part of this, mawa was responsible for lighting Germany’s largest poker floor on the third floor.
28 profile lights, custom-made for the casino, arranged in four rows, replace the previously mounted halogen-based pendant lights.
Slim, cable-carrying rectangular profiles are connected by narrow bars. Attached to these bars are paired »wittenberg 4.0« spotlights with honeycomb grids, providing glare-free illumination on the poker tables. Diffuse modules above the bars illuminate the gold-leaf ceiling.
A special requirement was the need to precisely monitor the room using camera technology. For this purpose, mawa designed special »camera slides« that can be flexibly and conveniently suspended in the profile lights.
Thanks to its in-house development department, mawa is able to fulfil the demands for camera and HD TV-compatible lighting.
The original lighting concept is still evident in the impressive brass chandeliers. To preserve them, they were given a general overhaul by mawa.
After extensive cleaning and the replacement of all technical components, such as ballasts, cables, and sockets, the 60 halogen bulbs in each chandelier were replaced with energy-saving LED retrofits.
Founded in West Berlin in 1975, the casino moved to its premises at Potsdamer Platz in 1998.
It employs around 500 people at its four locations in Berlin and welcomes more than 600,000 guests every year. However, it is not only committed to entertainment; it also strives for »Responsible Gaming« and engages in sports, culture, and social initiatives.
