Tunable white and Human Centric Lighting
Tunable white describes the variable adjustment of the colour temperature of the light from warm white to cool white. Different coloured LEDs are combined in one light source or luminaire for this purpose. Using a multi-channel ballast, the light colour can be set across a wide range from 2700 K (warm white) to 6500 K (cool white) and the brightness can be varied independently of this. This smooth, continuous change is the prerequisite for the realisation of so-called Human Centric Lighting (HCL) concepts.
Tunable White – Flexible light for every situation
Tunable White enables the colour temperature of a luminaire to be continuously adjusted, from warm to cool white. Users can control the light colour and intensity themselves depending on their requirements and mood: Warm white light creates a cosy atmosphere, while cool white promotes concentration.
Tunable White for natural lighting mood
Our seventies 70’s series with its Tunable White models enables precise adjustment of the colour temperature. This technology mimics the natural course of the day and provides dynamic light for every situation.
How Tunable White works
Tunable White technology combines two or more LED light sources with different colour temperatures – warm white and cool white – in one luminaire. By precisely controlling the power supply to each LED, the light colours can be mixed to achieve the desired colour temperature. This can be continuously adjusted from warm (approx. 2,700 K) to cool white (approx. 6,500 K). A control system allows the user to vary the colour temperature as required, creating flexible lighting scenes.
Human Centric Lighting (HCL) –
Light that adapts to the human circadian rhythm
Human Centric Lighting goes beyond pure vision and takes into account the effects of light on the human biorhythm. HCL uses a dynamic lighting concept to support people’s well-being and productivity by imitating natural daylight.
HCL simulates the course of daylight
Throughout the day, the colour and intensity of the light changes as the sun moves. This natural change can be simulated with Tunable White: In the morning and at midday, the light is cool and intense to promote activity and alertness. In the evening, it becomes warmer and softer to promote relaxation. At night, there is hardly any light, which prepares the body for sleep.
This concept helps to support a healthy biorhythm and create a natural lighting environment.
HCL has a positive effect on performance
Human performance also changes during the course of the day. With the help of Human Centric Lighting (HCL), artificial light can be optimally adapted to these changes.
In the morning and at midday, when alertness and attention are at their peak, cool, bright light can support productivity. In the evening and at night, when tiredness sets in, warmer light helps you to calm down.
Tunable White lighting dynamically adjusts the light temperature to this natural rhythm and promotes well-being and performance.
Benefits of Human Centric Lighting
Human Centric Lighting (HCL) uses dynamic light adaptation to imitate natural daylight and thus support biological rhythms. Whether in the office, at home or in educational institutions – HCL enables lighting that adapts optimally to people’s needs throughout the day and creates a healthy, pleasant environment.
