The 2025 gangkofner edition by mawa combines traditional glass craftsmanship with modern lighting technology. Each luminaire is a statement of iconic mid-century design, featuring hand-crafted Czech glass. Designed with a modular approach, the new gangkofner edition offers a wide range of customization and flexible design options.
The glass shapes are based on the original designs of Aloys Ferdinand Gangkofner – a legacy of craftsmanship now carried forward with contemporary manufacturing techniques. With a refined selection of exquisite glass bodies and optimized size variations, the series integrates seamlessly into a wide range of architectural settings and interiors – from exclusive residential spaces to professional applications in hotels, gastronomy, galleries, and halls.

Handcrafted shapes
Each piece of glass in the gangkofer edition is a mouth-blown original, crafted in the Czech Republic. The triplex glasses consist of three layers of glass. Slight variations in dimensions, glass thickness, occasional air bubbles, and minor color differences attest to the artisanal quality. A statement of modern elegance and timeless retro design.
Securely supported
The high-quality black textile cables with an internal steel core give center stage to the unique glass shape while ensuring a reliable and flexible installation. Custom pendant variations allow for use in lower rooms without altering the iconic form language. Please specify the desired total pendant length (measured from the ceiling edge to the bottom edge of the light glass) when placing an order. We will shorten the pendant upon request.
Transparently secured
As usual, the glass bodies are securely held by transparent, shatterproof Makrolon® feet, giving the pendants an almost weightless appearance. The holder blends seamlessly into the design, enhancing the floating elegance of the lights.
Simply grouped
The single and multiple canopies in matte white and matte black are available in round and linear variants, offering additional design possibilities for the gangkofer edition. Multiple pendant lights can be arranged individually, creating impressive lighting compositions. Thanks to adjustable heights, cables and other accessories are elegantly concealed in the single canopy.
Modular design
The lights in the gangkofer edition can be individually configured. In addition to the shape and glass color, two pendant variations with black-wrapped cables can be selected. Upon request, a CASAMBI Bluetooth control system can be pre-installed in the canopy.
Smart control
mawa’s lighting technology ensures not only the aesthetics of the edition but also the highest functionality. The lights can be equipped with an optional CASAMBI control system, enabling wireless light management.

The gangkofer edition luminaires do not come with bulbs as standard – however, suitable options can be ordered directly from us.

Depending on the light, simply choose the glass color, pendant and canopy color,
single or multiple canopy, lightbulb, switch or smart control, and total pendant length.
Aloys Ferdinand Gangkofner
(1920 – 2003)
Gangkofner devoted his life to glass design and left a lasting impact on the lighting designs of renowned manufacturers with his creations. Mawa’s 2025 reissue carries on this tradition, continuing Gangkofner’s design legacy with modern lighting technology. In close collaboration with his family, Mawa selected six of Gangkofner’s most iconic industrial designs for the relaunch.
